Corporation Updates

Hello all tribal members,

I have reestablished the non-profit organization and retained the name of the original corporation being the Delawares of Idaho, Inc. and have filed with the State and it was accepted. The previous corporation had lapsed due to failure to file their financial reports. This was due to Covid and other personal matters of the tribal secretary as I stated in our Annual Meeting. This was unfortunate but only a minor setback.

I chose Derek Trefren as a Director as he has a lot of business contacts in the local area, has great fundraising ideas, and also remembers the powwows of old and has a strong will to return us to our former selves.

I added Charlotte Simmons as a Director in order to show further legitimacy to the Corporation as she is the only surviving member of the original Board of Directors and the one who did the research and geneology tracing to allow us to petition for federal recognition.

I also added them so that gaining signatures for the creation of the Corporation would not take an extended period of time as the other members of the Council are not in the same state.

We can now hold official meetings and legally conduct business as intended.

We had a meeting scheduled for this weekend with the Council Members to discuss appointing new members to the council.

I wish to nominate Tara Cooper to the council to serve as Secretary as she has extensive experience serving on the Board the Directors of other corporations and is enthusiastic about our mission and vision.

I wish to nominate Daniel Dougherty to council to serve as Communications Officer in order to better get the word out to our members and the community in general. He has experience with social media and is part of the younger generation showing an interest in leadership and the tribal government.

I am currently in the process of organizing and creating the master citizenship rolls that do not include honorary members and does not include anyone that does not have a direct lineage to our common ancestor, Lucinda Marshall. This must be completed for the effort towards getting tribal cards out to the members of the tribe in a timely fashion and was encouraged by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

The next order of business, in addition to tribal cards, is to setup the organizations bank account so that we can accept donations for a tribal ID maker and the materials needed and to complete the setup of the tribal e-commerce store so that we can gain the funds needed to operate.

If you are interested in a council position, please send an email to us at [email protected] and explain why you wish to become a council member and any experience you may have.

As I have stated previously in all meetings and all communications with everyone, my only intent is for the betterment of the tribe and to address the grievances of the People and continue the Corporation and the tribe’s mission of gaining federal recognition for the Delawares of Idaho tribe.

Wenassi,

Kenneth Sereduk
